This week we looked at visually displaying photos in the Tribune Collection through a map. A range of different options were discussed to display these images such as heat maps. Difficulties in doing so became known due to the limitations of certain sites such as Google Maps not being able to load images to a seperate map. Due to this, the group is looking to develop an app with the help of Tim in order to display certain image(s) for a specific places and have it visible with its location. Data within the spreadsheet created within the group is still being updated by members of the group to help add and enrich data to apply to the map as of next week.
We the people of the events team are happy to announce that we are are busy uploading images to Wikimedia Commons – here’s an example Anti-Vietnam Demonstrations. We are also busy working on creating a timeline of events from the Tribune Collection for you to lay your eyes upon… We’ll keep you posted on our progress, but it seems to be going well!
The class project this year will be exploring the 60,000 images in the State Library of New South Wales’ collection of Tribune negatives. We’ll be investigating a number of different ways of finding, using, understanding, and seeing this rich digital collection.
